Automotive & Aviation

The automotive and aviation industries handle certain hazardous materials that can lead to fire, explosion, and self-heating hazards. For example, flash fires and explosions can occur in solvent-based spray paint operations where flammable aerosol as well as vapor atmospheres can ignite. Ignition sources vary, but spray painting using electrostatic techniques can give rise to voltage build-up and incidents. With more plastic materials and components in use now, a dust explosion risk can exist and is most severe where dusts are airborne in sufficiently high concentrations and in larger volumes, such as in dust conveying and dust collection equipment. Even the use of special metals such as aluminum can create explosion and fire risk through a chemical reaction, where hydrogen gas can be generated as a by-product.

We partner with our clients in automotive and aviation industries to help them identify, assess, prevent, and control fire, explosion, and accidental loss of containment hazards in their operations. Our services include expert consulting, laboratory testing, and training in the specialist fields of dust explosion & fire hazards, electrostatic hazards & processing problems, gas & vapor flammability hazards, Process Hazard Analysis, Process Safety Management, and incident investigation.
