Government Agencies
The United States Chemical Safety Board (CSB), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are amongst the government agencies that are charged with the following safety-related missions:
- Assuring safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance
- Independent investigation of the root causes of industrial accidents and protecting people and the environment. The root causes are usually deficiencies in safety management systems, but other causes often involve equipment failures, human errors, unforeseen chemical reactions, or other hazards.
- Protecting human health and the environment.
