Understanding Exploding Dust: Online Course Now Available

Are Your People Trained for Combustible Dust Hazards?

Stonehouse launches on-demand training to meet regulatory and operational needs

Effective dust explosion prevention starts with competence. That’s why we’ve developed a new suite of on-demand e-learning courses – designed to help companies not only comply with NFPA 660 requirements for personnel training, but to truly build understanding and improve safety outcomes at every level.

Understand the Threat. Prevent the Incident. Comply with NFPA 660.

Dust explosions remain one of the most misunderstood and underestimated hazards in industry. At Stonehouse Process Safety, we’ve just launched the first in our new series of on-demand e-learning courses – designed to build real competency in combustible dust safety, from the ground up.

Our flagship course, Exploding Dust, is available now – and free trailers (in both English and Spanish) are live for you to preview before enrolling.

Additional courses, including a dedicated Operators Combustible Dust Training module, are coming soon.

Why This Matters

With the introduction of NFPA 660 Standard for Combustible Dust, training isn’t optional – it’s required. This unified standard mandates that companies train all relevant personnel on the hazards of combustible dusts and the safeguards required to control them.

But training isn’t just about compliance. Our training brings the hazard to life – combining science, video footage, and decades of real-world Stonehouse experience so your team learns the rules, and the reasons behind them.

“If we don’t understand the threat, we can’t prevent the incident.”

Course Structure and Content Overview:

The Exploding Dust course offers 5+ hours of structured learning, divided into four parts, and suits a wide range of learners. You can work through the material at your own pace, pause and resume as needed, and reinforce your understanding with built-in quizzes and reference materials.

The journey begins with Part 1, where we return to first principles – exploring the conditions that lead to dust explosions, understanding explosibility and combustibility, and introducing key concepts like the basis of safety. Part 1 also has sections on the standards and regulatory environment, and we start looking at real life hazard scenarios, supplemented with case histories, video and photographs. Part 2 delves into “hands-on” Dust Hazards Analysis (DHA) with practical prevention and protection strategies: managing flammable atmospheres, identifying ignition sources, and applying explosion isolation and mitigation techniques – with plenty of detail and practical examples. Part 3 of the course draws the actionable threads together for real-world application. Part 4 offers an optional certificate assessment, and upon completion of the course, you’ll have a unique opportunity to discuss your learnings and on-plant issues directly with a Stonehouse dust explosion specialist – free of charge.

This is more than just a courseit’s a comprehensive learning experience designed to start building deep understanding and practical insight.
